IT management growing stronger

Nannette Napier

Nannette Napier new post doc researcher in IT management at Umeå university.

Research in the field of IT management grows even stronger at Umeå University. Guest professor Lars Mathiessen is already in place and he is now joined by postdoctoral researcher Nannette Napier.

Nannette Napier is an Assistant Professor at Georgia Gwinnett College and has been doing research with Lars Mathiassen, from Georgia State University, for many years. For the past year, Lars Mathiassen has been a guest professor at the Department of Informatics at Umeå University, and with the arrival of Nannette Napier as a postdoctoral researcher, the cooperation is now growing even deeper, thanks to financial funding from the Kempe foundations.

Nannette Napier will form part of the IT management group at the Department of Informatics, and she is currently participating in a project with Norrmejerier, with the aim of establishing information services that give people the right information at the right time.

“It appeals to me that you follow companies so closely here, and I look forward to learn more about how you do research here in Umeå.”

Different research climates

Despite her still very short time in Sweden Nannette Napier believes that she can already see differences between the research climates in Sweden and the USA. She thinks that teamwork is emphasized more in Sweden.

“Here in Umeå you work very closely with each other within the research group. We don’t really have the same tradition in the US. There it’s more competitive and many people go into research for their own personal sake and gain. Here you work more as a team. “

Professor Jonny Holmström is very pleased to see the addition of yet another American researcher to the research group.

A strong addition to the research group

“With the arrival of Nannette Napier we are now eleven researchers in the IT management group. She will be working with us and reinforcing a couple of our most promising projects. We really work as a team within our group, which makes it easier for a new researcher to step in and contribute with her competence. Among other things, Nannette has started working with us in a study of open innovation processes in collaboration projects between the university and the industry, and she is already the co-author of a new article”, says Jonny Holmström.

Jonny Holmström believes that Nannette Napiers competence in the field of action research will have a positive effect on the research.

“This is a great group to work with. Jonny Holmström is creative, Lars Mathiassen is structured and together with the other scientists that will give good results”, believes Nannette Napier.
